REPLICA

A mixed reality dance performance by Displace Studio

REPLICA is a new mixed reality dance performance by Displace Studio. Commissioned by The Space, with support from Broadway's Near Now and University of Nottingham.

Discover how it feels to meet a real and virtual performer as they dance, synch, glitch and compete with one another.

REPLICA is a 10-minute dance piece using immersive technology to display a virtual dancer that interacts with a live performer. Experienced by one audience member at a time, who wears a VR headset, Replica asks you to consider issues such as digital doubles, ageing, and how we present our digital selves in a world of ever-growing digitisation.

About Displace Studio

Displace Studio is a Mixed Reality Performance Studio co-lead by Digital Dance Artist Kerryn Wise & Creative Technologist Ben Neal.

Exploring the intersection of dance, film, physical theatre and digital technology, Displace produce bold, boundary-pushing work that dances between the darkness and the light—reality and fantasy—creating deep, interpersonal, immersive experiences that encourage audiences to step into, behind, and around the edges of illusion.

Works often take the form of intimate, dreamlike journeys through uncertain places rich in symbolism and metaphor in which curious behaviours are encountered.
