Showcasing outcomes from the Near Now Fellowship at Art-AI Festival, Leicester.

Through his Fellowship, artist and curator Antonio Roberts has conducted research into the affect AI and automation is having on curation in the arts.

In this presentation Antonio will present his research, which asks questions about the specific roles of curators and whether an AI can be used to fully automate an exhibition. This will culminate in a proposal for a Curator AI that he aims to develop in the near future.

Art-AI Festival

Art-AI is a two week festival taking place at Leicester's Phoenix Cinema and Arts Centre and Highcross shopping centre, exploring the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in arts through a programme of creative work including installations, performances and discussions.

"Today, Artificial Intelligence is everywhere – and yet virtually invisible to us. So what is AI, and why should we care?

This festival brings together a range of work – from installations and talks to films and live performance – to tackle this question, exploring the creative uses of this technology and speculating on what it means for our future.

Developed and curated by Dr Tracy Harwood, of the Institute of Creative Technologies at De Montfort University, Luba Elliott, an independent AI arts curator, Chris Tyrer, Digital Arts manager at Phoenix and Tina Barton, Community Manager at Highcross Shopping Centre."

See art-ai.dmu.ac.uk and www.phoenix.org.uk for details about all the installations, performances and discussions taking place at Art-AI festival.
