Blending DIY music, craft, performance, and technology, Sophie Huckfield's Lady Ludd project draws on feminist and queer reinterpretations of the Luddite movement, exploring how women and non-binary people have historically challenged technological change and shaped creative resistance.
Through voice, electronics, ambient sound, and fractured rhythms, Lady Ludd reimagines the loom: a symbol of feminised labour as both an installation and a live performance, weaving together histories of craft, music, and collective action.
Sophie Huckfield is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and writer whose collaborative practice explores labour, technology, class, craft, and (de)industrialisation through an intersectional feminist and queer lens.
Sophie Huckfield's Lady Ludd project was commissioned and supported by Broadway's Near Now Fellowship, using public funding by Arts Council England.
