Who's going to be there?

At Explorers Fair you'll find playful workshops, interesting talks and interactive experiences from some of the UK's most talented techies, artists and scientists.

There's lots to see and do at Explorers Fair, with fun activities taking place across Broadway.

Tickets are on sale now for entry to the Explorers Fair Expo, with tickets for a range of wonderful workshops coming soon.

Under 16s: £4.50

Adults: Free (when accompanying an Under 16s ticket holder)

Buy a ticket to tour the Expo: Three spaces filled with exciting art, science and technology to discover. Your tickets will also allow you free entry to inspiring talks and demonstrations taking place throughout the day (but please be aware that we'll have a limited number of spaces available for each talk).

Explorers Fair Expo

3D Printing with Creative-Dimensions

  • Learn all about the creative uses of 3D Printing with Creative-Dimensions.

Professor Astro Cat's Solar System

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Explore space with Professor Astro Cat! Minilab Studios will be demonstrating their educational and beautifully designed app, which was included in Apple's Best of 2016 list.

LED Badge Making

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Are you a soldering newbie? Have a go at making a light-up badge using simple electronics with The Curious Electric Company and Nottingham Hackspace.

Museum in a Box

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Explore miniature museums of the future! Museum in a Box puts museum collections and expert knowledge into your hands, wherever you are in the world.

Playchimp Mini-arcade machines

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Play and learn how to code your own games with Playchimp - a mini DIY arcade cabinet powered by a Raspberry Pi computer.

The Feelies' Frankenstein

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Experience the story of Frankenstein like never before using sounds, smells and cutting-edge wearable technology! The Feelies is a multisensory storytelling production house that tells audiences stories through all of their senses.

Line Wobbler

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Line Wobbler is an award-winning one-dimensional arcade game with a custom wobble controller made out of a steel spring and a five meter long ultrabright LED strip. Navigate obstacles and fight enemies to reach the exit! Line Wobbler is made by game designer Robin Baumgarten.

Tilt Brush - Virtual Reality Art

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Try making your own 3D artwork in virtual reality with Google's Tilt Brush and HTC Vive.

Making Art with Technology

  • Talk
  • Award-winning artist Jo Fairfax makes wonderful artwork using lots of different types of technology, including light sculptures, holograms and virtual reality. Find out more about Jo's work and what inspires him in this talk.

Live Science Show

  • Talk
  • Winner of 'I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here', University of Nottingham's Nicholas Pearce will wow you with his impressive science show. Learn the science behind glowsticks, create magical bubbles and discover the wonders of chemistry.

Who's in charge? You or the algorithm?

  • Talk
  • Looking for an answer to just about any question? Just look it up online! All the world's information is available through search engines, social networks, news recommenders etc. Ever wondered how these systems select which information is relevant for you? Find out at this talk by University of Nottingham's Horizon.

Free Activities

Interactive Kite Flying

  • Installation
  • Design a virtual kite and fly it above cities of the world in this interactive installation from the International Kite Project. Visit internationalkiteproject.com to design a kite before the event, or just drop in and draw one on the day.

Present your own TV show

  • Drop-in Workshop
  • Be a TV presenter for the day and make your own arts and science-themed show with Co-Lab.

Science Busking with Ignite!

  • Hands-on Demonstration
  • Who would have thought that you can create the sound effects of Star Wars with a slinky? Or turn your hands to marshmallows using chicken wire? Or put a hole in your hand with a tube of paper? These are all the weird and wonderful tricks that come with Science Busking: fun and excitement with experiments you can do at home, and guaranteed to make your friends go 'Wow!'

Build your own microscope

  • Drop-in Workshop
  • Learn about how microscopes work and build your own with University of Nottingham.

Animation for Beginners: Gravity

  • Workshop
  • Learn how to make a stop-motion animation with animator Trevor Woolery. Trevor will teach you the basics and challenge you to make a short video about gravity!
  • Spaces are limited. Book a workshop place by visiting the Explorers Fair table in the foyer. Children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.
